A comprehensive family assessment is grounded in principles of family-centered, culturally, competent practice. All-inclusive family assessment is the ongoing practice of identifying, considering, and weighing factors that impact children, youth, and their families.

This transparent and unbiased process includes parents, guardians and children and is carried out in a culturally sensitive and individualised manner ensuring the principle of the best interest of the child as specified in the Constitution and the Children’s Act 38 or 2007 are met.

The child’s best interest is a constitutional right of every child. In all matters concerning a child, the best interests of the child is paramount.
